If you are a fan of Kevin Smith‘s comedy and collect comic books, Quick Stops #1 was made for you.
Enter the Askewniverse when pop culture nuisance Kevin Smith’s brand-new anthology series opens for business, telling tall tales from the Jersey world of his classic comedies! With art from Jeremy Simser and a cover from John Sprengelmeyer, Quick Stops #1 hit local comic book shops on November 2.
In the premiere issue, Chronic-Con guest of honor Holden McNeil tells Alyssa Jones and a packed podcast audience his story of going green with legendary loiterers Jay and Silent Bob in the Quick Stop cooler, and how it directly led to the birth of his Bluntman and Chronic comic books!
Quick Stops, aptly named after the store Smith worked at growing up and the focus of his independent film Clerks, is Smith at his best. In this new series from Dark Horse Comics, the comedian adds more to the stories of films like Clerks, Dogma, Chasing Amy, Mallrats and Jay and Silent Bob: Reboot.
Clerks was filmed in black and white due to a low-budget and subpar lighting in Quick Stop, so Simser brought that feel to the pages of Quick Stops and it works perfectly. Plus, I am sure Dark Horse loves the cheaper print cost.
Dark, dirty comedy and off-the-wall plots is what you are in for with the newest addition to the Askewniverse from Smith. It’s made for us fans, but it’s definitely not for everyone.
Quick Stops returns from a second issue on December 7.
