R.L. Stine is one name most of us know with reading Goosebumps books while we were young. Now, Stine has been trying his luck with comic books once again and his latest release, Stuff of Nightmares #1, is nothing short of extraordinary.
Stuff of Nightmares was written by the infamous Stine with illustrations by A.L. Kaplan (Maw, Jim Henson’s The Storyteller), colors by Roman Titov, letters by Jim Campbell, and main cover by Dustin Nguyen. The first of the five-issue series hit your local comic book shop on Wednesday, September 21.
In the first of Stine’s reanimated reimaginings, you’re familiar with the classic tale of a mad scientist hell-bent on creating life, but what these two demented brothers have created is something else entirely!
The opening has a unnamed narrator telling you the story coming on the pages within the book. The amazing layouts and outstanding colors gives depth to the wonderful horrific story by Stine. Although the story has horrify moments, the book is not scary enough to ward off those who are not interested in horror comics. Glimpses of Goosebumps with a more mature story and for older readers.
Stuff of Nightmares #1 does just enough to give you a story, but leaving you wanting more and to know what happens in the second issue of this five-issue series. Stine lives up to his Goosebumps lore with this first issue for sure.
The second issue of Stuff of Nightmares hits shelves on October 26, 2022.
Stine has also written comic books such as Man-Thing, Indiana Jones, G.I. Joe, Horror High, Point Horror, Garbage Pail Kids, Just Beyond, and more over the years.
