Lights, Camera, Action! The Karman Line kicks off the lineup of brand new original graphic novels at Mad Cave Studios.
Written by Dennis Hopeless (Heart Eyes, Spider-Woman) with illustrations by Piotr Kowalski (Nightbreed, Steam Man), colors from Brad Simpson and lettering by Chas! Pangburn, The Karman Line hits shelves on March 15, 2023.
It’s all sex, lies and betrayal on a reality show streaming from the International Space Station until the crew receives a message reading “Abort the mission and get home now.” Things unravel quickly as they find their shuttle damaged and a crew member dead. They’ll have to fight to survive and escape… with cameras recording everything.
Now, we are always a sucker for a great space story, wether in a novel, comic book, movie or television show, this one in the form of an original graphic novel. So, Mad Cave hooked us from the start. It is nice when the anticipation is rewarded with an outstanding story backed by incredible art.
It’s somewhat surprising we haven’t seen much in the realm of reality television shows based in space. The Karman Line gives us a refreshing take on this and it really works. The creative team does a wonderful job with character development, allowing us to care for the stars of the show and what happens to them along the journey.
Hopeless gives us a great story with stellar twists and turns pointing us in directions we didn’t think it would go in a million years. This coupled with a political and current events backdrop gives us everything would could ask for in a book.
The Karman Line is paced perfectly with a slower start, but a speed that works amazing as the book movies along. We are typically more into floppy single issues, but this graphic novel format works for this story and allows us to get the complete story in one sitting. This doesn’t mean we don’t want more, because we do.
If The Karman Line is what we can expect from Mad Cave Studios upcoming original graphic novels, then we are in good hands and can’t wait for more.
Be sure to let your local comic shop or bookstore you are interested in The Karman Line so they can order you a copy!
