Specs #1 Grants Wishes In Stellar Debut Issue

Review Overview

What would you wish for if you had a pair of x-ray glasses that could make said wish come true? This is explored in Specs #1 along with the wishes you decide not to make.

In this mysterious new comic series from writer David M. Booher (Canto, All-New Firefly) and artist Chris Shehan (House of Slaughter), what happens when a couple of misfit teens mail-order a pair of X-ray glasses, and realize they’ve received much more than they bargained for?

SPECS #1But all Kenny and Ted want is to not feel like outcasts in their small Ohio town. Their world is turned upside down when the Magic Specs they receive unlock a world of possibilities.

Their wishes start out innocent enough, but when they wish that their bully would disappear…things take a cursed turn, with far darker consequences than they thought possible…

Specs #1 begins with a well narrated script by the main character which is a great perspective to have inside the pages of a comic book. Booher’s writing lends itself well to this type of storytelling.

The journey the debut issue of Specs features more than a simple make-a-wish story, but character who has to hide his true identity and feelings from his best friend. Booher’s ability to have the multiple threads into one great comic is outstanding, easy to read and very well paced.

Shehan’s illustrations and Roman Stevens colors pair well with Booher to add great artwork to an amazing story. Let’s not forget the well placed letters from Jim Campbell. Specs was a long journey to be made into what it is currently and it was well worth the wait.

This premiere issue also made me chuckle with a DC Comics joke about Batman and Superman.

Specs #1 hit shelves at your local comic book shop on November 9 with the second issue dropping December 14 from Boom! Studios.
