The Forged Vol. 1: Space Adventure Filled with Action and Stunning Artwork

Review Overview

The Forged Vol. 1 is an action-packed story, written by Greg Rucka and Eric Trautmann, which follows the Forged, a group of elite warriors in service to the Eternal Empress, as they embark on a routine recovery mission on a distant world. However, as you might expect, things quickly take a turn for the worse.

While the story in The Forged is wonderful we are really here for the stunning artwork by co-creator Mike Henderson. Known for his work on Nailbiter and Dead Man Logan, Henderson brings a level of detail and depth to the story that makes each panel feel like a cinematic experience. In short, if you’re a fan of visually striking comics, The Forged is a must-read.

The Forged certainly delivers in the story department as well. The characters are all well-written and fully realized, with their motivations and backstories explored in a way that makes them feel like real people. The action is fast-paced and intense, with each battle feeling like a life or death struggle.

Rucka and Trautmann clearly put a lot of thought into creating a universe that feels both familiar and alien at the same time. There are nods to classic sci-fi tropes, but there are also some truly unique concepts at play. It’s the details that make The Forged feel like a fully-realized world that readers can get lost in.

The first volume is a captivating tale that will take you on a journey across the galaxy and leave you wanting more. The writing, artwork, and overall production are top-notch, making it a book that stands out in a crowded genre. It’s a masterpiece that deserves all the praise it has received, and we can’t recommend it enough!

The Forged Vol. 1 hits local comic shops on September 13, 2023 and a day earlier on September 12 in bookstores everywhere. The second volume begins with issue four dropping September 20 from Image Comics.
