Dive into the depths of chilling suspense with The Harrower #1 – a classic slasher story that’ll grip you and leave you on the edge of your seat. With writing from Justin Jordan (The Strange Talent of Luther Strode), art by Brahm Revel (Guerillas), and expert lettering by Patrick Brosseau; this is sure to be an utterly terrifying experience!
In the quaint town of Harrow, New York, there is something lurking in the shadows. It’s a creature of puritanical vengeance, designed to punish the wicked and unrighteous. This terrifying boogeyman is known as the Harrower, and he has been haunting this small town for generations. Now it’s up to Alice Young, a teenage girl with an obsession with the Harrower, to uncover its secrets before she falls prey to its sinister grasp. So how does this comic fare?
The story of The Harrower #1 begins with Alice visiting her grandmother in an old-fashioned nursing home. Here she discovers a secret that leads her on a journey filled with horror and suspense. As Alice delves deeper into history of the Harrower, she soon finds herself in its crosshairs. The pacing of this comic is well done; it starts off slow but quickly ramps up as Alice gets closer to discovering what truly lurks in the shadows of Harrow.
The artwork from Revel in this comic is absolutely stunning. From each panel, you can feel Alice’s fear as she braves ever more unnerving scenarios along her journey for answers about the Harrower. There are some particularly hair-raising scenes that do a great job capturing just how much danger Alice is actually in from an unknown supernatural force that no one quite understands yet. You can practically feel the action on each page.
What really makes this comic stand out is its classic slasher movie vibes; it captures all that we love about those films (the jump scares, creepy visuals) while also grounding them in something much more realistic and plausible than your average slasher flick. This gives us readers something fresh yet familiar to enjoy while reading this comic book series.
All in all, The Harrower #1 earns high marks for its suspenseful story and gripping artwork combined with its classic slasher movie vibe that feels both fresh and terrifyingly grounded at the same time. If you’re looking for a horror comic book series that will keep you on edge from start to finish then be sure to give The Harrower #1 a read; you won’t regret it!
