San Diego Comic-Con opens it’s doors for preview night on Thursday and kicks the main event off on Friday. This weekend we will hear about new projects, updates and more, including a report that Marvel will announce a “The Mutants” movie is in the works.
The Marvel Studios panel takes place on Saturday, July 23 at 5:00pm in Hall H. During the Marvel Cinematic Universe panel, we can expect to see a sneak peaks at Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (November 11) and the upcoming Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (August 17). Other possibilities are discussion on Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (February 17, 2023), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (May 5, 2023), The Marvels (July 28, 2023), and Blade (TBA).
Now a report from Deadline has news that a The Mutants film is in development at Marvel and the studio will make the announcement at SDCC this weekend. It was three years ago this weekend when the studio announced Blade, so big news is always inevitable in San Diego.
What does this mean for the future of the MCU, it is unknown. However, we are not surprised to see Marvel will playing with mutants over the next few years. During the season finale of Ms. Marvel last week the word “mutation” was uttered and the theme song to the 1990s X-Men: Animated Series was playing in the background, giving way for mutants to join the MCU.
It will be interesting to see if The Mutants will be a movie about mutants in general or they will eventually form the X-Men during the film. It’s also possible the movie ends up being retitled as X-Men or a similar name, rebooting the Fox X-Men universe.
It is important to note, Marvel may save a few big announcements for the Disney D23 Expo in September when the show is focused on them. This is where we may hear updates on Fantastic Four and more.
Follow along this weekend as news breaks from SDCC. Maybe we will hear about The Mutants, maybe we won’t. Only time will tell.
