Review Overview

The Three-Body Problem, written by Cixin Liu and translated by Ken Liu, takes readers on a thrilling journey set against the backdrop of China’s Cultural Revolution. With a mixture of secret military projects, alien civilizations, and the impending invasion of Earth, this novel was an experience.

The Three-Body ProblemThe novel’s wild imagination is one of its defining features. The intricate plot twists and turns kept us on the edge of their seats, reminiscent of the suspense found in mystery and thriller novels. As the story unfolds, different factions on Earth begin to form, each with their own agenda regarding the impending alien invasion. The depth of character development and world-building is truly impressive.

The Three-Body Problem puts science at its forefront and unapologetically celebrates it. While we found certain scientific concepts overwhelming, they are crucial to the story’s complexity and depth. The blend of hard science fiction with compelling storytelling made for a unique reading experience that left us pondering long after we finished the book.

Originally written in Chinese, the translation of The Three-Body Problem by Ken Liu is seamless. The book flows smoothly, capturing all the nuances and intricacies of the original text without losing any important details. This attention to detail ensured we can fully immerse ourselves in the world created by Cixin Liu.

The Three-Body Problem is truly standout work in the realm of science fiction. Its thought-provoking themes, complex characters, and mind-bending story has made it a must-read for sci-fi fans. As other authors strive to meet this standard, Cixin Liu’s masterpiece will undoubtedly stand the test of time as one of the greatest sci-fi series ever written.

Originally released in 2016, The Three-Body Problem is available at bookstores everywhere. There is a wonderful audiobook version available at Libro.fm narrated by Luke Daniels. Now onto The Dark Forest.

The Three-Body Problem was adapted into a Netflix series which premiered in March 2024 and is now available for streaming.
