Great news for Star Wars fans, Lucasfilm announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023 that three new Star Wars movies are in active development, including one featuring Daisy Ridley as Rey.
After eagerly anticipating a return to the big screen since 2019’s epic finale, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, fans can now rejoice as Star Wars Celebration has officially announced the arrival of not one, but THREE new Star Wars movies! The galaxy far, far away will be brought back to life through the visionary direction of James Mangold, Dave Filoni, and Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy.
James Mangold, the director of Logan and the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, will create a film that “will go back to the dawn of the Jedi.”
The legendary Dave Filoni is directing a new film that will take you deep into the heart of the New Republic. Filoni is a Star Wars veteran who has been a driving force behind some of the most beloved entries in the franchise. With his incredible track record as the creator of The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, along with his work on The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, we just know this new project is going to be something special. And best of all, it’s Filoni’s first live-action film, so you can bet he’s going to pour everything he’s got into it.
Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the mastermind behind the dynamic works like Ms. Marvel and Saving Face, is set to take us on an epic cinematic journey. Her upcoming masterpiece will transport us to a galaxy far, far away where we will witness the iconic Daisy Ridley as Rey, the bearer of the Force, rebuild the Jedi Order after the events of Rise of Skywalker.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has said the three newly announced Star Wars movies are “pretty far along” in development.
Other Star Wars Movies
Kathleen Kennedy has said the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron film could still happen despite its production fizzling away at Disney. While she expressed hat The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson‘s Star Wars trilogy is not being actively developed.
Despite being a no-show at Star Wars Celebration 2023, Taika Waititi‘s upcoming Star Wars film hasn’t been given the axe by Disney. Rumors have been circulating about the fate of this highly anticipated project, but Kathleen Kennedy has reassured fans that Waititi is hard at work on the script and won’t be rushed.
