The Capes and Tights Podcast started as The Maine State of Mind and featured Paul Eaton of Galactic Comics and Collectibles as a regular guest for episodes entitled “The Pull List” in which the crew discussed comic book related topics. Looking back on these episodes we are featuring our “Top-10 Comic Book Artists” list for you here.

Here is a list of my top-10 comic book artists. To get the entire list, including Paul’s favorite comic book story arcs, check out the old episode. Since the episode aired a bit ago, one small change has been made to the Top-10 Comic Book Artists list below.

#10 // CHARLIE ADLARD

Comic Book Artists

Charles Adlard is best known for his work on comic books such as The Walking Dead and Savage. Adlard took over duties from Tony Moore on issue seven of The Walking Dead and illustrated all the way up to the final issue 193 in 2019.

#9 // GREG CAPULLO

Comic Book Artists

Gregory Capullo is best known for his work on Quasar, X-Force, Angela , Spawn and Batman. Capullo’s work on over 100 issues of Spawn is the focus for my love for the artist. He is only second to the original creator in comic book artwork on Spawn.

#8 // JOHN ROMITA, JR.

Comic Books Artists

John Romita, Jr. is best known for his extensive work for Marvel Comics from the 1970s to the 2010s. His work on Spider-Man is known as one of the best to illustrate the web-slinger. He has worked on The Amazing Spider-Man, Iron Man, Kick-Ass, Superman, Uncanny X-Men, and more.

#7 // SARA PICHELLI

Comic Book Artists

Sara Pichelli is best known for first illustrating the Miles Morales version of Ultimate Spider-Man. After starting her career in animation, Pichelli entered the comic book industry working for IDW Publishing before joining Marvel Comics in 2008 after getting discovered in an international talent search. She is also known for Runaways, X-Men: Pixie Strikes Back, Guardians of the Galaxy, and more.

#6 // GEORGE PEREZ

Comic Book Artists

George Pérez is best known for his work on The Infinity Gauntlet, The Avengers, Crisis on Infinite Earths, New Teen Titans, Wonder Woman, and more! Sadly, Pérez passed away May 6, 2022 at the age of 67 after a long battle with cancer. His work will always be remembered.

#5 // ALEX ROSS*

Comic Book Artists

Alex Ross is best known primarily for his painted interiors, covers, and design work. His work on The World’s Greatest Super-Heroes, Kingdom Come, Justice, Marvels, Captain America, and Immortal Hulk is world renowned.

On the episode, Ross is listed at #4, but after time has passed he has been moved. See the next page for who moved up!

#4 // MIKE DEL MUNDO*

Comic Book Artists

Mike Del Mundo is best known for his work on Uncanny X-Men, A+X #2, Superior Spider-Man Team-Up, Elektra, All-New X-Men, Weirdworld, Totally Awesome Hulk, Avengers, Astonishing X-Men, Inhumans: Judgment Day One-shot, Thor, Star Wars, and more!

#2 // TODD McFARLANE

Todd McFarlane is best known for his work as the artist on The Amazing Spider-Man and as the writer and creator / artist on the superhero horror-fantasy series Spawn. He is the co-founder at Image Comics and currently holds the position of President. He is the co-creator of Venom at Marvel Comics.
