The world has been given numerous adaptations of the 1843 novella by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol. However, not all live up to the original story.

According to our research there are over 50 adaptations of the story have been released and only about 10-percent are worth watching more than once. The other 40 or so versions can be watched once, if even at all.

Even with all the A Christmas Carol adaptations, it honestly wasn't that difficult for us to pick our top-5 favorite versions.

2. Scrooged (1988)

A Christmas Carol

Scrooged is still considered one of the favorite Christmas movies of all-time and is such a great take on the classic story. You really cannot go wrong with Bill Murray in the lead role in any film and he nails it in this one.

Traditional tellings of the novella use the original names (Ebenezer Scrooge, Jacob Marley, Bob Cratchit) while in Scrooged the story is told via an entire new cast of characters but fitting into the roles of the originals.

This is what retelling of the novella should be, a modern take on the original.

Scrooged comes in on Rotten Tomatoes at 69% critic and 71% audience.
