Review Overview

Blood Tree #1 confronts the battle of nature versus nurture, and considers how present and future generations are tainted by past generations. From comics super team Peter J. Tomasi (Superman) and Maxim Śimić comes a gripping tale of two obsessed NYPD detectives hunting for a vicious butcher called the Angel Killer.

Blood Tree #1Blood Tree follows Detectives Darryl Azzaro and Roberta Wolf as they attempt to catch the diabolical Angel Killer, who preys on innocent family members of known murderers in order to “purify” society. As these detectives dig deeper into their investigation, they must also grapple with questions about justice and morality. Can one man really single-handedly purge an entire population of its sins? Is it possible to separate one person from their past or will their legacy always haunt them? The answers they seek won’t be easy – especially since this killer’s motives may be more sinister than they ever expected.

Blood Tree is definitely not for the faint of heart, but if you enjoy thrilling crime stories then this comic book series should definitely be on your list. Not only does it offer an exciting plotline full of twists and turns, but it also raises interesting moral questions about justice and retribution that make readers think deeply about our own values and beliefs. In addition, Śimić’s gritty art creates tension in each panel as we watch Detective Azzaro slowly unravel while trying to get closer to his target. Lastly, Tomasi’s writing style makes it impossible not to get sucked in right away. Śimić’s art pairs extremely well with Tomasi’s story.

If you’re looking for an intense crime thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end, look no further than Blood Tree! This thrilling series from Tomasi and Śimić offers readers a story full of twists and turns as two obsessed NYPD detectives hunt for a vicious butcher called the Angel Killer.

Blood Tree #1 from Image Comics hit shelves at your local comic shop on February 1, 2023 with a second issue coming March 8.
