Barbaric: Hell To Pay #1 has all the facets we could ask for in a comic book with action, comedy, great artwork and so much more.
Written by Michael Moreci (Wasted Space, The Plot) with art from Nathan Gooden (The Rush, Powerless), colors by Addison Duke and lettering by Jim Campbell, Barbaric: Hell To Pay #1 from Vault Comics hits local comic shops this January.
Barbaric is back and headed straight to hell in an all-new arc so big and bloody, it’s getting an extra issue!
While Owen tames a dragon with an old friend, Soren and Steel cross paths with someone else from our cursed barbarian’s past…who isn’t looking nearly as friendly. Hell hath no fury like a woman stabbed through the heart by an ugly f***ing orc.
Oh, wait! Who’s carrying Axe?
The story kicks off with a bang. With that being said, we never got the chance to experience the first volume, but after reading Barbaric: Hell To Pay #1 we feel it isn’t 100% necessary. You can definitely enjoy what Moreci and Gooden are trying to do with this followup story without much prior knowledge. The benefit to us was the surprise comedy and certain aspects we weren’t expecting this series.
The comedy was perfectly placed and not overdone, plus we get weapons that talk. This was somewhat attempted in the disappointing Thor: Love and Thunder with Thor’s relationship with Stormbreaker and Mjolnir, but failed miserably. Barbaric has the actual weapons talking and joking with those wielding them. It’s almost perfect. Moreci’s writing paired with Gooden’s artwork works extremely well together.
For some reason this series was not on our radar, but is now for sure.
Head to your local comic shop on January 18 to grab Barbaric: Hell To Pay #1 from Vault Comics.
