The final installment in the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy at Marvel Studios drops on May 5, 2023 in the form Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Prior to watching the new film, catch up on some Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.

In Marvel Studios Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

With over 30 films and many Disney+ series in the MCU it can be hard to know what to watch prior to the next release. Although not all movies are a requirement to understand some films, we put together a few in different categories to help.

Must Watch: These films are the movies you need to watch to get a full understanding of what might take place in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Of course they films include the team’s introduction and progression over the past few years.

Should Watch: With the Guardians heavily involved in the entire MCU getting a few other films under your belt is helpful, including the teams last few appearances.

Extra Credit: Now the following films aren’t required to get your tickets to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but they for sure will help get you ready for the future including where we last saw some of the team.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Brash space adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the quarry of relentless bounty hunters after he steals an orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain. To evade Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with four disparate misfits: gun-toting Rocket Raccoon, treelike-humanoid Groot, enigmatic Gamora, and vengeance-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when he discovers the orb’s true power and the cosmic threat it poses, Quill must rally his ragtag group to save the universe.
