The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been introducing more and more characters from the comics over the last decade, including MODOK and Kang The Conquerer with their upcoming film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
MODOK (Mental/Mobile/Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing) is a disfigured human living within the Quantum Realm. He has a giant head with a single eye dominating his face and two small arms protruding out from it. He is considered one of Marvel’s most dangerous villains due to his immense mental capabilities; some believe he can control time itself. Despite his villainous status, MODOK actually has a conflicted backstory that makes him somewhat sympathetic.
His origin story begins when AIM (Advanced Idea Mechanics) kidnaps George Tarleton, a normal scientist working for them at the time. Through experimentation and torture, they transform him into MODOK—a superpowered creature with psychic abilities beyond measure. It doesn’t take long before this new creation decides to turn against his former employers and become a villain instead of their instrument of destruction.
MODOK’s powers make him formidable enough on their own; however, it is his intelligence that gives him an edge over other villains like Kang The Conqueror. His ability to think strategically allows him to outwit even some of Marvel’s greatest heroes. Although no official information has been released regarding who will portray MODOK in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, there has been speculation that Aaron Cross—Corey Stoll’s character from Ant-Man (2015)—may fill these shoes as he was lost in the Quantum Realm at the end of that movie.
With Cross possibly becoming MODOK in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania we could be seeing one of Marvel’s most powerful villains come to life on screen for the first time ever! We are very excited about what this means for MCU fans worldwide especially since no real information has been released yet about who will be playing this iconic character when we finally get to see it on February 17, 2023!
