Thanks in large part to the talented Matthew Rosenberg, I eagerly dove into You’ll Do Bad Things, a thrilling miniseries by writer Tyler Boss and artist Adriano Turtulici. This Image Comics series delivers a giallo-inspired thriller by a remarkable creative team.
It’s been ten years since the release of He Came in With a Smile, the true crime smash hit that chronicled the brutal murders committed by the Nursery Rhyme Killer. But in the decade since its release, its author Seth Holms hasn’t produced another title. He wants to write a story with a happy ending, but every time his fingers clack across the keyboard, it always ends in his character’s death. Worse yet? These tales of blood and barbarity that flow so freely from Seth’s mind are starting to happen in real life.
Tyler Boss, known mostly for his remarkable artistic talent, demonstrates his ability to write a story in the premiere issue of You’ll Do Bad Things. This wonderful first issue combines bloody scenes with compelling story, hooking me from the first page. Boss excellently uses a deliberate, slow-burn approach to unveil key revelations, effectively building an immersive world while making me deeply invested in the characters. With a fresh and creative spin on fun premise, this first issue sets the stage for what seems to be an unforgettable series.
While it would have been fascinating to see Boss’ take on the artwork, Adriano Turtulici’s unique visual style delivers fantastic imagery that perfectly captures the tone and mood of the premiere issue. The carefully selected colors make each page standout, creating a rich and immersive reading experience. In the end, I think we made out just fine with Turtulici’s art.
On one hand Boss delivers a fun and unique story that deserves plenty of praise, but it’s the stellar artwork by Turtulici that truly completes the comic. Not to mention how the lettering by the award-winning Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou further elevates the series. This new Image Comics release caught me off guard in the best way possible, though with such a talented creative team behind it, perhaps it shouldn’t have been a surprise.
The horrors found in You’ll Do Bad Things are truly amazing. Tyler Boss showcases his ability to craft a storytelling beyond illustration with a brilliantly told narrative, while Adriano Turtulici takes the series to a new level with stunning visuals. You’ll Do Bad Things is a must-read for any fan of horror.
You’ll Do Bad Things #1 hit local comic shops on March 26, 2025 from Image Comics.
