Cleo, the protagonist, is an adopted 16-year-old Japanese-American girl who has been struggling with severe depression. As she tries to reintegrate back into her old life, things take a terrifying turn when she begins to encounter ghost after ghost. One thing that really stands out about A Haunted Girl is the amazing artwork by Marco Lorenzana. The illustrations are detailed, full of life, and work perfectly with the story. It raises questions and leaves just enough mystery to keep readers invested.

Cleo’s depression and her struggles to fit in are just a few examples of the many themes the comic book touches upon. These issues are portrayed so well that readers can really empathize with Cleo’s pain and her journey. The Sacks writing duo does a phenomenal job weaving these themes into the story, making it a more rounded and fulfilling read.
