Review Overview

Sadly, we have never had a chance to see the artwork of Lee Bermejo until A Vicious Circle #1 from BOOM! Studios and holy smokes have we been missing out.

A Vicious Circle #1 comes from iconic artist Lee Bermejo (Batman: Damned, Joker) along with director and screenwriter Mattson Tomlin (Batman: The Imposter)!

Shawn Thacker is a trained assassin from the future who seeks revenge on the only other man with his affliction-each life they take forces them both to travel between vastly different past and future eras.

Spanning from 22nd century Tokyo to 1950s New Orleans to the Cretaceous Era and beyond, the two mortal rivals are locked in a battle of wills that spans millions of years, all to alter the course of history.

With each time period, Bermejo adjusts his artistic style to pay homage to luminary comics artists and historical master painters, all presented in a prestige, oversized format!

The gripping and unique story is nothing to push to the side, but this book has some of the best artwork we have ever seen inside the pages of a comic book. Bermejo is unbelievably talented and has skyrocketed on our list of top comic book artists of all-time.

Opening to the first page of A Vicious Circle #1 had me wondering if the panels were actual illustrations or photographs. Incredibly realistic and absolutely stunning. The first two pages or so are in simple black and white lines with grey tones, while the first 30 pages or so is drastically different with bright and vibrant colors. Although the first half and second half are designed to be different they work so well together.

This three-issue miniseries has made its way onto our pull list for the remainder of the run, solely for the work of Bermejo. A Vicious Circle #1 hits your local comic shop on December 14.
