Comic creators Anthony Cleveland and Alex Cormack join the Capes and Tights Podcast for Episode 217 on April 2, 2025. To prepare for the conversation, we have compiled seven comics by Cleveland and Cormack you should read.

Cleveland burst onto the scene with his comic series Stargazer and followed up the successful first series with Show’s End, both at Mad Cave Studios. His latest series Charred Remains with artist Andrea Mutti released in late 2023, early 2024 at Mad Cave with the trade paperback releasing August 2024.

Cormack is an illustrator and animator whose works include the critically acclaimed Sink from ComixTribe Publishing, Red Dog from 451 media, the official prequel to the motion picture Hardcore Henry, Hardcore Akan from STX Entertainment and Bliss on Tap Publishing, and Road of Bones and Breath of Shadows from IDW Publishing. More recently, Cormack partnered up with David Pepose to release The Devil That Wears My Face at Mad Cave as well as Drive Like Hell with longtime creative partner Rich Douek.

Together, Cleveland and Cormack are set to release Buried Long, Long Ago #1 with Mad Cave Studios on April 16, 2025.

Charred Remains (Mad Cave) // Anthony Cleveland

Charred Remains TP

A flame that only burns flesh is at the center of a century long conspiracy that an aging firefighter and young woman set out to uncover.

A dark entity made of fire, smoke, and ash–“The Fire Man”–blazes through a young girl’s home, killing her entire family. Amy Durant swears she saw this supernatural creature, but no one ever believed her. Unfortunately, these past fears reignite a decade later as her city goes up in flames. With no one else to rely on, Amy is forced to battle both past trauma and the face of the inferno.

The Devil That Wears My Face (Mad Cave) // Alex Cormack

The Devil That Wears My Face

Equal parts Face/Off and The Exorcist, Ringo Award-winning writer David Pepose (Moon Knight: City of the Dead, Savage Avengers) and Bram Stoker Award-nominated artist Alex Cormack (Sea of Sorrows, The Crimson Cage) conjure a harrowing tale of terror, action, and body-swap intrigue that will leave comic readers at the edge of their seats.

The year is 1740, and the Vatican is in turmoil. Grappling with a profound crisis of faith, outcast exorcist Father Franco Vieri is dispatched on a mission of grave importance – to rescue a Spanish nobleman from the clutches of the sadistic demon known as Legion. But when the exorcism goes tragically wrong, Vieri finds himself trapped in a stranger’s body… and learns what horrors lie ahead when the Devil wears his face.

Stargazer (Mad Cave) // Anthony Cleveland

Stargazer

Years ago Shae, her brother Kenny, and two childhood friends experienced a traumatic, unexplainable event that left Kenny scarred for life. Twenty years later Kenny has committed himself to the belief that what they experienced was an alien abduction, and the group has since drifted apart. However, the sudden and mysterious disappearance of Kenny leads the group to reunite and discover the truth of what took place all those years ago.

Drive Like Hell (Dark Horse) // Alex Cormack

Drive Like Hell TP

Bobby Ray and Dahlia planned the perfect bank heist, and even stole the perfect getaway car.

There’s just one little problem—it belongs to the devil himself, and he wants it back. Bad.

When the job goes wrong, Bobby Ray and Dahlia find themselves embroiled in a high-octane chase across the highways, on the run from demonic cops, satanic bikers, and psychotic religious freaks, all of them after the car, and the mysterious artifact in its trunk. With all the forces of evil on their trail, there’s only one thing Bobby Ray and Dahlia can do—drive like hell.

Show’s End (Mad Cave) // Anthony Cleveland

Show's End

Equal parts brutal and beautiful, Show’s End takes place in Georgia during the 1920s and follows Loralye, a 12-year-old runaway seeking refuge with a traveling group of freak show performers. At first, she isn’t welcomed for being too “ordinary.” But what her newfound family doesn’t know, is that Loralye is hiding a secret more freakish than anyone could ever imagine!

Breath of Shadows (IDW) // Alex Cormack

Breath of Shadows

A new expedition into the heart of horror from Rich Douek and Alex Cormack, the team behind Sea of Sorrows and the Bram Stoker Award–winning series Road of Bones!

It’s the mid-1960s, and Jimmy Meadows should be on top of the world. His band’s most recent album just went gold, and they’re riding a wave to international fame. But Jimmy is driven by only one thing: where to get his next fix.

With his bandmates at the end of their ropes and his life falling apart, Jimmy thinks he may be finished, until a friend tells him about a controversial method deep in the jungles of South America that can help him kick his addiction for good. But is clean living actually in Jimmy’s future, or will he instead unleash horrors beyond his wildest nightmares?

Buried Long, Long Ago (Mad Cave) // Cleveland and Cormack

Buried Long, Long Ago #1

For fans of historical fiction focusing on a woman, Belle Gunness, with a murderous vendetta…a nice amount of mayhem and the supernatural thrown in for good measure. For fans of the film The Witch and the comic adaptation of The Dunwich Horror.

Based on true events, from 1901-1908 Belle Gunness lured dozens of lonely men to her Indiana farm and savagely murdered them for their money. Because Belle managed to avoid capture and face trial, much of this story remains untold. Until now. This is a fairy-tale retelling of her brutal crimes from the perspective of her three young children…who soon discover there is something far worse, and far more evil, than their mother on the farm. Something Buried Long, Long Ago.

Issue #1 hits local comic shops on April 16, 2025 from Mad Cave Studios.
