Review Overview

Not every person who has been told they are “The One” has turned out to be set for life. Brian Michael Bendis gives us a glimpse of this in his new comic book, The Ones at Dark Horse Comics.

From Award-winning writer Brian Michael Bendis (House of M, Secret Invasion, Powers) and wunderkind artist and co-creator Jacob Edgar (Batman, Army of Darkness), comes the next, best awesome super team to end all super teams…The Ones! K.J. Diaz adds colors, while the comic book is lettered by Joshua Reed. This debut issue hit shelves at your local comic book shop on November 2.

The OnesEvery single person in every mythology that was told they were “The One” are brought together for the first time to defeat…”The One.” The actual one. The real actual one. Watch as the creative team brings explosive comics splendor to this big new world! Think Good Omens meets Ghostbusters meets The Adam Project meets The Goonies meets Everything Everywhere All at Once meets, um, anything else you’ve ever liked!

I see the name Brian Michael Bendis attached to a project and the local comic book shop already has my money, all of it. I have been a huge Bendis fan for a long time and feel like anything he writes is worth the glance.

In the debut issue of The Ones, the creative team gives us a unique story and sets the tone and foundation for the rest of the series. Issue one introduces the ones to us with a man named Wilson attempting to recruit the cast of characters. Succeeding in getting the group in the same room, what I compare to the Chinese restaurant gathering of The Losers’ Club in Stephen King’s It, and explain to them all why he needs them.

Bendis’ easy ready, well thought out story, along with clean amazing artwork from Edgar and colors from Diaz gives you a complete first issue and leaves you excited for the future of the series. The debut didn’t feel rushed or packed with too much, although it was stuffed with a ton of information, it didn’t feel bloated.

Bendis still tends to draw me into his work over and over. The Ones is no different.

The second issue of The Ones drops at your LCS on December 7.
