Review Overview

Beyond The Beyond takes you on an adventure through space in the four-issue mini-series from Scout Comics.

Written by Christian Tropeano, artwork from Gian Fernando (The Great Wall: Last Survivor), colors by Beyond Colorlab, and letters by Joel Rodriguez (Stake), Beyond The Beyond debut issue hit shelves at your local comic book store on March 23, 2022 and ran four issues.

Nova Vega is a teenage idealist who resides on a mining colony run by the oppressive Omni corporation. Nova is disenchanted by her prospects of entering the Omni Mining Academy, for she’d much rather be out exploring the stars like her parents before her. We are also introduced to Sirius Vega, Nova’s older brother and guardian, who picks her up after she’s thrown out of class for insubordination. When an argument between the siblings goes too far, Nova enacts her long awaited plan to escape the mining colony and explore the alien world from where her parents never returned.

One of the benefits of reviewing comic books in the ability to pick and choose which books I read and review. We get comic book review requests weekly and typically I have to turn them away due to lack of time or interest in said book. However, I was extremely happy I agreed to read Beyond The Beyond as it was simply spectacular.

The cover art draws you in at first sight. Beautiful artwork always sells a book for me. I am slightly bias as an artist by day, so artwork is typically my fist go-to in a comic book. The stellar art doesn’t stop at the cover, Fernando adds amazing styling throughout the four-issue series and draws, non pun intended, you into the world of Nova Vega and the story Treopeano is attempting to tell you.

Beyond The Beyond has great flow and leaves you wanting more at the end of each issue, in a good way. By the end of the first issue I truly cared about Nova Vega and her hope for adventure. Not to mention, I have a bias opinion on the name Nova as she shares the name with my son who was born in 2021. Always a sucker for books surrounding the name Nova.

If each comic book solicited to our email address is as good as Beyond The Beyond we are in for a good future. Let’s hope the creative team returns in the near future for another mini-series or on-going series of comic books.

Beyond The Beyond is available for purchase at Scout Comics.
