This month for the Galactic Comics and Collectibles Book Club we read A Legacy of Violence from Eisner and Bram Stoker nominated horror writer Cullen Bunn and artist Andrea Mutti published by Mad Cave Studios.
When Dr. Nicholas Shaw joins a humanitarian medical outfit in Honduras, he hopes to recover from a recent traumatic event and actually help those in need. But something sinister has followed Dr. Shaw here, something that wants to put his medical skills through a ghastly gauntlet. There’s something connected to this young doctor’s past and the untold horrors that occurred long before he was born.
Cullen Bunn is the mind behind comics such as Harrow County, The Empty Man, Nightwalkers, Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe, and so many more. Mutti has recently illustrated books Haunt You To The End, the upcoming Charred Remains and many more.
While we review the first volume of A Legacy of Violence in April 2023, this is an opportunity for the Galactic Book Club to read and discuss the first four issues of the Mad Cave series. Check out our glowing review.
The vast majority of the 10 attendees to this month’s book club really enjoyed the first volume of A Legacy of Violence. The story having a storyline that has the possibility of being real mixed with the artwork that gives the book grittiness were the biggest talking points. While some were not fans of Mutti’s art style, others thought it was perfect for this story.
A few members of the club wished more was resolved and revealed in the first four issues and felt they were shortchanged in the trade paperback, while the majority can’t wait to read the second volume hitting bookstores everywhere on October 3, 2023 and local comic shops on October 11.
Cullen Bunn joined the Capes and Tights Podcast on Episode 96 to discuss A Legacy of Violence and much more.
