At the Disney D23 Expo on Saturday, Marvel Studios announced a few names returning to the fray and one new name joining Captain America: New World Order.
Of course, Anthony Mackie will return as Sam Wilson/Captain America in his first solo film. Joining Mackie is Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, and Danny Ramirez as Falcon. Shira Haas is making her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Israeli superhero Sabra.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman returns to pen the script for New World Order with Dalan Musson, and Cloverfield Paradox‘s director Julius Onah helms the project. Onah calls the film a “paranoid thriller.” Mackie raved about the project, saying, “I’m nervous! I’m excited. It’s everything I expected it to be.”
Nelson returns to the MCU after his debut in The Incredible Hulk over 14 years ago. He first appeared as Samuel Sterns in the 2008 film when he began his transformation into the iconic Hulk villain. Now two mostly forgotten characters from one of the low points in the MCU return to the mix with Nelson joining Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/Abomination. Roth returned in the latest Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney At Law in August.
New World Order is part of the MCU phase 5 with a release date set for May 3, 2024, marking the fourth Captain America film and the first not featuring Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America.
