Jasper Jayne was the girl of Zara’s dreams, but their brief relationship came and went in such an intense blaze that Zara was left thinking Jasper was just that… a dream. Years later, Zara is thrust back into Jasper’s world — unknowingly listed as her emergency contact, Zara must piece together the mystery of Jasper’s life, all while being hunted by the assassins who once called Jasper one of their own.
James Tynion IV crafts a tale that follows characters whose lives intertwine with the rhythm akin to New York City’s own heartbeat—a city that serves as both backdrop and character in its own right. Tynion’s story explores how people we meet can change us forever; how our perceptions can be turned on their head when we truly see someone for who they are. Through the engaging storyline and action-packed sequences, The City Beneath Her Feet quickly became more than just another comic but an experience.
While Tynion’s script is full of energy and engaging, the true stars of The City Beneath Her Feet are Charretier and Bellaire. Their combined efforts result in pages that burst with color, motion, and emotion, creating scenes that feel alive beyond their two-dimensional confines. Charretier’s artwork differs from other popular Tynion comics which is a refreshing sight. Each panel is infused with kinetic engird that pulls us through the story, while the colors by Bellaire pop off each page creating a synergy between these creators that is executed flawlessly.
