Clown in a Cornfield 2: Frendo Lives by Adam Cesare is a thrilling sequel that kept us on the edge of their seats with a perfect blend of horror, mystery, and gore. Frendo Lives adds to the lore of Frendo putting the character up there with Scream‘s Ghostface and Halloween‘s Michael Myers.
After barely making it out of the Kettle Springs cornfields alive, Quinn’s first year away at college should be safe and easy. All she wants is to be normal again. But instead, Quinn finds that her past won’t leave her alone when she becomes the focus of online conspiracy theories that claim the Kettle Springs Massacre never happened. It’s a deranged but relentless fantasy, and there’s nothing Quinn can do to get people to hear the truth—not even on her own campus or in her own dorm room.
So when a murderous clown attacks Quinn at a frat party while another goes after her father in Kettle Springs at the same time, Quinn realizes that the facts alone are never going to save her. Her only option is to go back into the cornfields, back where the nightmare began, to set the record straight the only way she knows how. Because when the truth gets lost in the lies, that’s when people start to die.
Adam Cesare is at his best in Frendo Lives with sharp and engaging writing that drew me into the twisted narrative as they unravel the truth behind the chilling events in Kettle Springs. Just like the original book in the series, Frendo Lives does not shy away from the brutal horror and gore that comes along with a slasher story. While we never thought there would be a story as good as the series debut, Frendo Lives comes in right behind it with a thrilling slasher tale. Frendo Lives elevates the saga to new heights.
Frendo Lives shows off the skill of Cesare’s ability to create complex and compelling characters that are definitely fictional, but also feel real and relatable at the same time. We welcome back some of our favorite characters from the first installment, while also being introduce to a spate of new characters adding some twists and turns along the way. Quinn Maybrook will go down as an all-time final girl that should be in the same conversation as the likes of Laurie Strode (Halloween), Sidney Prescott (Scream) or even Jade Daniels (My Heart is a Chainsaw).
Clown in a Cornfield 2: Frendo Lives wonderfully blends together elements of horror, suspense and drama to create a gripping story that hooked us from the beginning. The pacing is relentless, but perfect, each chapter builds on the previous to create a sense of suspense and tension that culminates with a heart-pounding climax. Adam Cesare has created an unforgettable reading experience and we cannot wait for more.
