Amazon making a further push into developing comic book IP into feature films and television series with the signing of former Marvel Comics editor-in-chief and Marvel Entertainment chief creative officer Joe Quesada to first-look deal.
Quesada will focus on adapting existing and new comic book IP for the streamer under this new deal.
“Joe has been a singular and influential creative force guiding some of the most iconic storytelling that exists today,” said Nick Pepper, head of U.S. owned development at Amazon. “The opportunity to bring his expertise and vision to Amazon Studios presents a world of possibilities and we can’t wait to see what he brings to life next.”
Amazon already has a pretty outstanding lineup comic book related content including the widely popular live-action series The Boys based on the WildStorm/Dynamite Entertainment comic books and the animated series Invincible based Robert Kirkman‘s Skybound/Image Comics series.
Quesada stepped away from Marvel on May 31, 2022 after 24 years with the company. The comic book legend helped develop comics that would eventually lead to major motion pictures and television series. He played a key role in the first round of Marvel Studios movies and TV series and is credited as an executive producer on Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage at Netflix and Agents of SHIELD at ABC Studios.
While at Amazon, Quesada will help with former The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang on Silk: Spider Society along with some of the other projects on the nearly 900 characters the streaming giant has the rights to use. Joe will also develop new IP into series and films.
