The latest issue of Image’s 30th Anniversary anthology features a preview story of James Tynion IV‘s newest creator-owned comic series, W0rldtr33.
In 1999, Gabriel, Amanda, Liam, Yoshi, and Darren discovered what they dubbed the Undernet—a secret architecture beneath the internet. They charted their exploration of the Undernet on a private message board called W0rldtr33. Then they lost control. And unleashed unimaginable horrors.
W0rldtr33 is Tynion’s first creator-owner horror release since The Nice House on the Lake at DC‘s Black Label. The writer is also the creator behind Something Is Killing The Children, The Department of Truth, and many more.
The preview story in Image 30th Anniversary Anthology #8 gave us just enough information to fuel our anticipation for the March 2023 release of W0rldtr33’s debut issue.
Tynion has typically worked with artists with a more chaotic and rough art-style such as Martin Simmonds (The Department of Truth), Werther Dell’Edera (Something Is Killing The Children) and Álvaro Martínez Bueno (The Nice House on the Lake). However, in W0rldtr33 has a different feel and it works.
Fernando Blanco‘s illustrations are more clean and fits Tynion’s writing style perfectly. This in addition to the wonderful colors from Jordie Bellaire and letters by Aditya Bidikar gives us such hope for another smash-hit from the award-winning horror writer.
Although the story in Image 30th Anniversary Anthology #8, was only seven pages, Tynion accomplished just what was set out to do, prepare the world for W0rldtr33 by introducing the story and the characters. Raising enough questions that waiting for March 2023 to read the Image Comics‘ series is going to be tough.
