Dynamite Entertainment continues to bring the heat with nostalgic characters in amazing fashion continuing with Jonny Quest #1 from writer Joe Casey and standout artist Sebastián Piriz.
Launching out of its issue #0 prelude story in Dynamite’s 2024 Free Comic Book Day release, this action-packed new title begins where the show left off in 1964, but things quickly take a turn for the uncanny as they team returns from an experiment at sea to their home base in Palm Key, only to discover that the once-familiar landscape is now strangely, disquietingly different!
In the debut issue of the new Jonny Quest series, Joe Casey perfectly balances nostalgia with fresh, exciting story. Fans of the original show will appreciate the nods to classic moments and character dynamics, while newcomers should find something to love with the high-stakes action and intriguing mysteries introduced in this first installment. Casey’s writing pairs perfectly with the tales of Jonny Quest.
Not to take away from the talented storytelling of Casey, but Sebastián Piriz is why I opened the first page of Jonny Quest #1. Piriz’s lines are some of my favorite in the world of comics today. In this debut issue he brings each classic character to life with a great deal of energy and detail. Piriz makes the characters feel both familiar and fresh at the same time giving us reason to linger on each page far longer than needed taking in the artwork.
The chemistry between Casey’s writing and Piriz’s artwork shines through in this debut issue of Jonny Quest. The comic feels like a true labor of love for both creators. The pacing is brisk and engaging, drawing us in and taking us on a ride aboard the Sea Quest. Longtime fans and newcomers should be in awe of this new series from some of the best creators in the business.
