There is something to be said about a comic featuring a ton of Spider-Man characters from all over the multiverse. In Spider-Society #1, writer Alex Segura and artist Scott Godlewski give us not just a few Spider-people, but a gluttony of Spider-characters that will make any Spider-Man fan excited.
Madame Web has sensed a threat across the span of the Web of Life and Destiny, but even with her near omniscience, the exact details of that threat are unknown to her. To prepare, she tasked Miguel O’hara, Spider-Man 2099, to form an elite squadron of the best and brightest the Spider-Verse had to offer. Before he could even narrow down his selections, he was attacked and captured by a mysterious force, leaving the job to his would-be lieutenant, Anya Corazon, Araña, to gather the Spider-Society.
Alex Segura gives us every Spider-Character we love and even some we haven’t met yet when the first meeting of the Spider-Society commences. A room full of Spider-People might be the most crazy meeting the multiverse has ever seen. While the multiverse of Spider-Man characters might be overwhelming to some, I personally love any comic that features this many variations of the classic web-slinger. It’s always fun to see what characters the creative teams have drummed up to make us laugh or even surprised and Segura does it well.
Segura’s writing style fits perfectly in the world of Spider-Man, capturing many different Spider characters with unique voices and personalities. His dialogue is has the right amount of witty and engaging banter. The story is engaging and moved at the perfect pace while adding moments of depth and emotion. Alex’s writing feels at home in the Spider-world.
While the writing slots right into the world of Spider-Man, the artwork from Scott Godlewski is also top-notch. His illustrations perfectly capture the energy and movement of each character. The action sequences jump off each page, drawing me into each heart-pounding scuffle with enthusiasm. In Spider-Society #1, the team faces off against some menacing villains that provided plenty of thrills and excitement that are wonderfully illustrated by Godlewski.
Spider-Society #1 is a great addition to the Spider-Man multiverse. Writer Alex Segura and artist Scott Godlewski feel right at home in this world and it shows on each and every page. Spider-Society is an immersive comic experience chalked full of various Spider-People allowing for an exciting comic for any Spider-Man fan.
Spider-Society #1 hit local comic shops on August 14, 2024 from Marvel Comics.
