Secret Invasion hits Disney+ on June 21, 2023 as the first Marvel Studios series to drop on Disney+ this year. It is the ninth Marvel Cinematic Universe series and is part of Phase 5.
In Secret Invasion, Nick Fury uncovers a conspiracy for a group of shapeshifting Skrulls to infiltrate Earth in positions of power around the world, recruiting Everett K. Ross, Maria Hill, and Talos to stop it and save humanity.
The miniseries was created by Kyle Bradstreet based on the Marvel Comics storyline by the same name. The six-episode series will all be directed by Ali Selim while Bradstreet, Brant Englestein, Brian Tucker and Roxanne Paredes all share on the writing duties.
Secret Invasion sees Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role as Nick Fury from the film series. Also starring are Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, with Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik, Dermot Mulroney as President Ritson, Emilia Clarke as G’iah, Olivia Colman as Sonya Falsworth, and Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes.
Additionally, Charlayne Woodard, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Christopher McDonald, Katie Finneran, and Carmen Ejogo will also star.
In the comics, Secret Invasion was a crossover storyline that ran through a self-titled eight-issue limited series and several tie-in books published by Marvel Comics from April through December 2008. The creative team behind the limited series included writer Brian Michael Bendis, penciler Leinil Francis Yu, inker Mark Morales, and colorist Laura Martin.
The comic story involves a subversive, long-term invasion of Earth by the Skrulls, a group of alien shapeshifters who have secretly replaced many superheroes in the Marvel Universe with impostors over a period of years, prior to the overt invasion. The promotional tagline for the event was “Who do you trust?”.
Secret Invasion premieres on June 21 and runs every Wednesday until July 26.
