Adding to the amazing Marvel Cinematic Universe news at the Disney D23 Expo, Marvel Studios announced the cast of the 2024 Thunderbolts film.
Thunderbolts will star Wyatt Russell as John Walker/US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava/Ghost, David Harbour as Red Guardian and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine all part of the Thunderbolts team. Concept art also revealed Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier and Black Widow‘s Taskmaster might be part of the team.
The newly announced film will be directed by Jake Schreier (Paper Towns), while Eric Pearson (Black Widow) is onboard to write.
Thunderbolts made their comic book debut in 1997 in The Incredible Hulk #449. Marvel billed the team as a new 1990s superhero squad only to pull the surprise twist that it was actually a team of villains posing as heroes. The original roster included Citizen V, Mach-1, Meteorite, Atlas, Techno, and Songbird. However, the roster has changed numerous times over the years. Of course none of the original characters are currently part of the MCU, which is the reason for the current lineup revealed on Saturday.
The film will serve as the final film in the fifth phase of MCU movies. Not much is known about the film’s plot. However, it likely will feature a group of supervillains who will go on missions for the government.
Thunderbolts hits theaters on July 26, 2024.
