Review Overview

If you’re a fan of the American Psycho, you’ll be thrilled to know that there is a new limited series that explores the world of Patrick Bateman and his infamous New York City killing spree in a brand new perspective.

In American Psycho #1, we get to witness Patrick’s murderous rampage, and at the same time, explore new revelations that will make you see his bloody story through a whole new lens. Additionally, this series introduces us to a new psychopath, Charlie Carruthers, a social media-obsessed millennial who goes on a downward spiral filled with violence.

In the debut issue of American Psycho, we’re introduced to a character from the film who is revealed to be much more than they appeared. This revelation gave us the opportunity to see Patrick Bateman from a different POV, which was quite refreshing. It’s like seeing the events from the movie and novel all over again, but with a twist. We’re able to delve into his psyche and see the world through his eyes, making us question everything we thought we knew about Patrick Bateman.

The series is illustrated by Piotr Kowalski (The Karman Line, Where Monsters Lie), who does an outstanding job of bringing Patrick’s world to life with just the right amount of gore. The dynamite lettering from Micah Myers is also a standout, making the story flow effortlessly. We couldn’t help but notice how the comic book gave us a similar feel to the feature film. It’s like they were made for each other. The attention to detail is superb, and it’s clear that the team behind the comic book put in a lot of effort to ensure that they captured the essence of the movie and novel.

One of the things we loved about American Psycho is that it’s not just a retelling of the movie or novel. While it does maintain some of the characters and events we’re familiar with, there are new revelations that keep things fresh and exciting. We also get introduced to a new character, Charlie Carruthers, who is sure to become a fan favorite. She’s a social media-obsessed millennial who goes on a downward spiral filled with violence, and it’s intriguing to see how she interacts with the world of Patrick Bateman.

The pacing of American Psycho is superb. It moves at a reasonable pace, allowing us to digest all the information presented. The comic book’s structure gives us a unique insight into how these psychopaths operate. It’s interesting to see how their paths cross, and we can’t wait to see how their stories unfold.

American Psycho #1 is an impressive comic book that does the movie and novel justice. Michael Calero‘s writing, Kowalski’s art, Brad Simpson‘s colors and Myers’ lettering are superb, providing us with a similar feel to the feature film. The story is fresh and exciting, with new revelations to keep us engaged. We cannot wait to see where this story is going.

American Psycho #1 hits local comic shops on October 11, 2023 from Sumerian Comics, just in time for the spooky season!
