Millarworld and Netflix introduce us to the world of vampire superheroes in Night Club #1 at Image Comics.
Written by the outstanding Mark Millar (Kick-Ass, Civil War) and illustrated by Juanan Ramirez (Darkhawk, Champions), Night Club #1 is available now at your local comic shop for the low price of $1.99. Take that, Marvel and DC!
You’re 17 years old and you’ve been bitten by a vampire. Do you live in the shadows and drink human blood, or do you use your newfound gifts for the dream costumed superhero life you’ve always wanted? You’re bulletproof, you can crawl up walls, and you can turn to mist, bats, or even a wolf. Why not have a little fun?
Telling stories based around vampires can have a tendency to go really bad or knock it out of the park, Night Club #1 definitely falls into the ladder category. Millar’s wonderful storytelling and outstanding artwork from Ramirez give us a book that just different enough to set itself apart yet not too apart. Bonus, it’s only $1.99!
Slow paced to start before the vampires first appear about midway through. A nice thing to see in the world of creators trying to push everything into the premiere issue and over load it. Night Club gives us just enough to want to continue reading, but not little enough for us to lose interest.
Well constructed by Millar and Ramirez, not to mention colorist Fabiana Mascolo and letterer Clem Robins, gives extreme hope for this series to be a smash hit. Yes, $1.99 doesn’t hurt as well.
Night Club #1, the first of a six-issue series, hit local comic shops on December 14 with a follow-up issue coming January 18, 2023.
One would have to think we will see this series adapted for streaming with Netflix owning Millarworld.
