Night of the Ghoul is a Dazzling Work of Horror

Review Overview

A dazzling work of horror, intercutting between the present-day narrative and the story of a lost horror film in Night of the Ghoul from Dark Horse.

Night of the Ghoul is a spine-tingling horror story that will take you on a dark and exhilarating journey by writer Scott Snyder (Wytches, Nocterra, Batman) and artist Francesco Francavilla (The Black Coat, Zorro, Detective Comics). Lettering added by AndWorld Design.

The story revolves around filmmaker T.F. Merrit and his claimed captivity in a retirement facility run by the Order of the Fly. Forest Inmann and his son Orson soon find themselves embroiled in the nightmarish world of T.F. Merrit. The miniseries is an intriguing mix of vintage and modern horror elements that are bound to captivate you.

Scott Snyder is an Eisner award-winning master storyteller who creates a carefully crafted plot. The story has a perfect pace that builds up slowly and steadily, culminating in horror and fear. The story is eerily reminiscent of the golden era of horror with classic tropes.

One of the best things about Night of the Ghoul is the artwork by talented Eisner awarding-winning Francesco Francavilla. Francavilla produces some of the most remarkable illustrations that are both simple and detailed at the same time. His artistic style of combining bold colors, shadows, and textures creates a terrifying atmosphere that brings the story to life. The pages jump off the book, drawing you in the story and making you feel like you are at the center of the horror world.

Night of the Ghoul is a delight for horror enthusiasts and fans of comics. The story is cleverly written, the artwork is breathtaking, and the atmosphere is genuinely unsettling.

The Night of the Ghoul trade paperback hits bookstores on July 4, 2023 and comic book shops on July 5 from Dark Horse.
