We can’t get enough of Daniel Kraus‘s novel Whalefall and we guess Hollywood can’t either as 20th Century Studios wins a competitive bidding war between multiple studios.
In addition to 20th Century Studios taking the reigns to make the film, Brian Duffield will join the team to co-writer, direct and produce the movie. Duffield already has a strong relationship with Steve Asbell and his team altering working together on the sci-fi thriller No One Will Save You. Imagine snag the rights last summer shortly after the novel was released.
The novel was published by MTV Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, on August 8, 2023. The book has had wide success since it was published including making a few bestseller lists as well as named the Capes and Tights Book of the Year. Whalefall recounts the gripping tale of a scuba diver on a quest to find his late father’s body, only to be engulfed by an eighty-foot, sixty-ton sperm whale. With just an hour of oxygen left, he faces a perilous race against time for survival. In the depths of despair, he discovers an unexpected source of hope amidst incredible danger.
Daniel Kraus, a New York Times bestselling Author, will co-write, with Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and Allan Mandelbaum to produce for Imagine Entertainment, alongside Duffield.
Whalefall was first a book, then a beer, now will grace us in the future as a feature film. Keep an eye out for more details!
