Review Overview

Antarctica Vol. 1, written by Simon Birks, with artwork from Willi Roberts, and letters by Lyndon White is a non-stop sci-fi action blockbuster that deserves your attention.

Antarctica is a science fiction action thriller, where readers are thrown into a world with a conspiracy that threatens everything the character Hannah has ever believed in. Hannah’s life took a turn when her father failed to return from the secretive Smith-Petersen research station in Antarctica, which plunged her into a world of hurt and pain. On the brink of hopelessness, Hannah receives help from a friend and is now retrained as an engineer, securing a job at the same Antarctic station to search for her father. This move leads Hannah on an adventure of a lifetime, discovering a world of conspiracy, and evil lurking around the corner.

The first volume also boasts of an exceptional layout and design, making every page a visual delight. The characters are richly detailed and illustrated, capturing the emotions and personality necessary to drive the storyline. The action scenes are expertly executed, keeping readers on the edge of their seat, making it impossible to put down.

Antarctica is full of well-written twists and unexpected turns, guaranteeing an immersive reading experience. For those looking for a fresh take on science fiction and action-packed thrillers, Antarctica should be on your reading list.

Antarctica is expertly illustrated, written, and designed, providing readers with an enjoyable reading experience from start to finish. It is no surprise that it has been considered one of our favorite comics of 2023. While it started as a miniseries, the book was quickly promoted to an on-going series with issue six hitting shelves at local comic shops on December 13, 2023. The collected edition of the first five issues hits stores on February 13, 2024.

Simon Birks, Willi Roberts and Lyndon White drop by the Capes and Tights Podcast on Episode 142 (December 13) to discuss Antarctica and more!
