When the solicitation described Plush #1 as “serial-killing, cannibalistic furries” it was a must-add to our pull list. However, it was not what we expected.
Plastic and Vinyl creators Doug Wagner and Daniel Hillyard are back. This time, they’ve recruited colorist extraordinaire Rico Renzi for their disturbing “neon-horror” spin on fursuit psychopaths and bizarre love.
Devin Fulcher is coerced into attending his first furry convention. When he accidentally happens upon a group of furries devouring a human, the insanity begins. Do they just want Devin for dinner… or something much more wicked?
The debut issue also features variant covers from Tony Fleecs, Jorge Corona / Sarah Stern, and Tula Lotay.
When you sell a story and deliver on less it isn’t a great look. Plush #1 definitely wasn’t the debut issue of this much-anticipated series we had hoped for when cracking the book.
The first issue started slow and didn’t really pick up by the time we got to the final page. We kept expecting more and then this issue ended. I don’t know if the story matched up with the theme of the book as much as we had wanted and that could be our let down.
The script was easy-to-read just didn’t have an impact. The artwork is the saving grace in our opinion as it was captivating enough to push you to turn the page.
We can only hope the second issue in this odd comic book saves the story and propels the series for many issues. Just not a great first issue to push me to want to purchase the next.
Plush #1 hit shelves at your local comic shop on November 30 with issue two coming December 28.
