Orono Brewing Company has partnered up with Daniel Kraus and MTV Books to brew a special India Pale Ale to celebrate the release of Daniel’s latest novel, Whalefall.
Whalefall is The Martian meets 127 Hours, in a thriller about a scuba diver who’s been swallowed by an eighty-foot, sixty-ton sperm whale and has only one hour to escape before his oxygen runs out.
Following the success of Kraus’s collaboration with Dark Matter Coffee on The Living Dead Coffee around the release of the novel with the same name, the collaboration with Orono Brewing seemed like a no-brainer.
“Daniel Kraus and I first discussed the possibility of collabing on a beer following his guest appearance on my podcast, Capes and Tights,” said Justin Soderberg, Orono Brewing Creative Director. “He had me hooked on collabing together from the start, but I was even more on board when the book was centered around a whale.”
The limited edition IPA will be released in early August 2023, directly in the heart of whale watching season. From April-October multiple species visit Maine’s waters, including humpback, finback, minke and pilot.
Whalefall IPA combines Maine’s love for the ocean and love for India Pale Ales in a small batch beer to celebrate Daniel’s book.
“Whoever heard of a literary beer? But the salty, briny nature of Whalefall made me think of a whale ale right away,” said Kraus. “I wanted to work with a brewery in a state actually known for whales. Orono seemed the perfect partner.”
This limited edition beer will be gone before you know it. So keep an eye on Orono Brewing’s social media for exact release dates and grab Whalefall from Daniel Kraus wherever books are sold on August 8, 2023.
Learn more about Whalefall, the beer collaboration and more on Episode 119 coming August 2 on the Capes and Tights Podcast.
Daniel will be in Orono and Bangor, Maine on August 25 and August 26 to sign copies, meet fans and more at Orono Brewing, The Briar Patch and Galactic Comics. Details coming soon!
