Over the years we have been given a number of crossovers featuring characters from various universes, including Predator, Alien, and various Marvel characters. Now, in Predator vs. Black Panther, Benjamin Percy tackles the leader of Wakanda taking on extraterrestrial warriors.
You saw the Marvel Universe’s most tenacious mutant go up against one of the greatest killing machines in history in Predator vs. Wolverine – and survive. Now the planet Earth lives on in Predator lore…a planet full of the most exhilarating prey they could imagine! And the strongest weapons in the Multiverse are in their sights. When a young Predator with something to prove comes for Wakanda’s vibranium, the Black Panther faces an enemy whose resources rival those of his great nation. Who will prove stronger?
Over the past number of years we have read many crossovers between two intellectual properties that have felt forced and clunky, but acclaimed writer Benjamin Percy does an excellent job of seamlessly blending the worlds of Predator and Black Panther. The explanation for why these characters are meeting makes sense and adds depth to the story. It feels like a natural progression rather than a gimmick.
The artwork in Predator vs. Black Panther #1 is stunning and detailed, showcasing the talents of the creative team behind the series which includes Chris Allen, Sean Damien Hill and Lee Ferguson. Each panel is intricately crafted, bringing both worlds to life in vivid detail. While the level of detail may be overwhelming at times with some much happening on each page, it adds to the overall immersive experience.
While I was hoping for more interaction between Black Panther and Predator in the first issue, Percy does fantastic job providing plenty of backstory on Predators and sets up the conflict well. This setup allows for a strong foundation to be laid for future issues, building anticipation for what’s to come. The tone is thrilling and complex building tension to when these powerful forces collide. The premiere issue left me eagerly awaiting future issues as we can’t help but be excited about what lies ahead for Predator vs. Black Panther.
Predator vs. Black Panther #1 offers a fresh and exciting start to what promises to be an epic crossover series. Benjamin Percy’s strong writing, the art team’s detailed illustrations, and a thrilling tone gives this debut issue all the elements needed to keep me captivated and coming back for more. Fans of both Marvel and Predator universes should be able to find something to love about this high-stakes clash between two formidable foes!
