Revolution 9, written by Mark London and illustrated by Carlos Reno, is an epic action-packed debut that left us eagerly anticipating more from the Underworld universe at Mad Cave Studios. London doesn’t pull any punches and we are here for it.
After years as an assassin for the Order of Nine-an ancient order dating back almost 3,000 years-Velveteen has turned her back on the very organization that saved her. Tasked with the murder of otherwise innocent hacker Jasper Dean, she sets off to save his life and discover the terrible secret that marked him for death. With the entire Order after them, Velveteen and Jasper must escape their grasp and prevent them from toppling society as we know it.
Mark London launches the Underworld universe at Mad Cave with a gripping first series, Revolution 9. This debut issue successfully introduces us to the series while setting the tone for the entire universe. London’s writing captures attention with its captivating narrative and significant revelations that kept us on edge throughout.
Revolution 9 isn’t just an assassin’s tale; it sets the stage for a deeper narrative right from the first issue. London skillfully blends science fiction, action, and drama to deliver a compelling start that captivated me from the first page. The story is concise and engaging, free from unnecessary dialogue or banter, making it a page-turner from beginning to end. I really sunk my teeth into this first issue knowing London has a keen ability to tell some pretty awesome tales.
Carlos Reno’s artwork in Revolution 9 perfectly complements London’s writing. It’s not flashy, but it enhances the story beautifully. Jay Canola’s colors and letters by Dave Sharpe add the final touch to make this comic a complete package. Revolution 9 #1 is action-packed, with scenes so vivid they feel almost cinematic, they almost jumping off the page.
After completing the first issue of Revolution 9, I’m not just excited for the next installment but also eager to explore more of the Underworld universe and the major crossover set for 2025. Each miniseries is a standalone adventure, yet they all build up to Endless Night—a crossover that promises to be mind-blowing. If Revolution 9 is any indication of what’s to come, we’re in for an unforgettable experience.
