Finally, after many delays, the first feature film adaptation of Stephen King‘s Salem’s Lot hits screens on October 3, 2024. This marks the first adaptation since the previous television miniseries versions in 1979 and 2004.
Writer Ben Mears returns to his childhood home of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration, only to discover his hometown is being preyed upon by a vampire, leading him to band together with a ragtag group to fight it.
Salem’s Lot was written and directed by Gary Dauberman, based on King’s 1975 novel Salem’s Lot. The film stars Lewis Pullman as Ben Mears, Makenzie Leigh as Susan Norton, Bill Camp as Matthew Burke, Pilou Asbæk as Richard Straker, Alfre Woodard as Dr. Cody, and William Sadler as Parkins Gillespie. The film also stars John Benjamin Hickey, Jordan Preston Carter, Spencer Treat Clark, Nicholas Crovetti, Cade Woodward, and Alexander Ward.
Principal photography happened in Boston, Massachusetts as well as Ipswich, Sterling, and Clinton. The Princeton Public Library in Princeton, Massachusetts, was also booked as a filming location for three days.
The film was originally set to be released on September 9, 2022, the post-Labor Day weekend that had been successful for the studio’s past horror releases, but was delayed to April 21, 2023, “due to COVID-related delays in the post-production realm”, before losing its release date to Evil Dead Rise. It was confirmed in 2024 the movie would release on Max on October 3. According to the Film Distributors’ Association, it will be theatrically released in the United Kingdom and Ireland on October 11.
Tune into Max on October 3, 2024 for the first feature film adaptation of Salem’s Lot!
