It’s Only Teenage Wasteland revolves around high school teens who are trying to survive the apocalypse from writer Curt Pires and artist Jacoby Salcedo at Dark Horse Comics.
The story starts with Javi, a Mexican-American high schooler, who decides to throw a party while his parents are out of town. This party was supposed to make him famous among the popular kids and get him noticed by some girls. But, like any high school party, things start to go wrong. Javi’s friend ends up taking a beating from the school bully. Just when he thinks things couldn’t get any worse, the apocalypse happens.
The world as they know it comes to an end, with only a few survivors left, including Javi and his friends. Together, they must learn to survive in this new world. The story focuses on their struggles as they try to make sense of the apocalypse and mend the broken ties from the last party.
One of the things that make It’s Only Teenage Wasteland stand out is the unique story featuring teens trying to survive an apocalypse. Curt Pires does an excellent job of capturing the angst and drama that comes with being a teenager, even in the face of the apocalypse.
The pacing of the story is on-point, with the right amount of character development and action happening at the right time. However, the last few pages did feel a bit rushed, which may leave some readers feeling unsatisfied. Nonetheless, it’s still an excellent read.
As a fan of this comic book series, I can’t help but wish it were longer. The characters and the world-building have so much potential that I hope to see more from this series in the future. If you’re looking for something unique and entertaining, this is a must-read.
It’s Only Teenage Wasteland is a great series that combines teen drama with an apocalyptic twist. The story is exciting, and the characters are relatable, making it accessible to both teen and adult audiences. While it may have had some pacing issues towards the end, it was still an excellent read with its unique storyline, excellent artwork, and relatable characters.
