Writer Zac Thompson and artist Jok have teamed up to create an intense, emotional and unique story in The Body Trade from Mad Cave Studios. With a gripping storyline and stellar artwork, The Body Trade is sure to grab your attention.
Kim Krilic is a divorced ex-con who’s trying to atone. However, his short temper tends to get the best of him. When he returns to Florida to bury his estranged son. He’s sickened to find an empty grave. His son’s remains were sold into “The Body Trade”. Armed with righteous fury, Kim sets out to reclaim his child’s corpse. But one act of vengeance causes everything to spiral out of control.
The Body Trade is an unrelenting revenge story set against the backdrop of America’s aftermarket for dead bodies.
The Body Trade is more proof that Zac Thompson is a master storyteller. His work on this series showcases his ability to craft a story with complex characters, compelling narratives and a tale that resonates with us on a deep level. Thompson takes a story dealing with loss, redemption and the lengths one will go for the ones we love and packages it with outstanding artwork in comic form.
While some may take Jok’s artwork differently, I am a fan. His work is a standout feature in The Body Trade with gritty and raw illustrations that perfectly complement the tone of Thompson’s story. Jok creates a sense of unease adding to the overall atmosphere of this series. This neo-noir crime thriller is filled with bloodshed and brutality and is expertly visualized by Jok.
Some comic tales are just that, tales told in comic format. However, Thompson has the keen ability to tell a story with all-to-real plots dealing with social issues taking place in our world and give them a spin that immerses us in the pages of a comic book. The story being told has more meaning to the writer than just a way to make money and it shows on each and every page.
The Body Trade #1 is a fantastic crime thriller with a deeper story. Zac Thompson’s writing along with Jok’s gritty artwork creates a powerful reading experience that stays with you long after you close the issue. We can only hope for me stories like these and cannot wait to see where this series is heading.
