Those looking for more fictional political thriller films to watch are in luck with the comic series “The Recount” getting optioned for Hollywood.
Filmmaker Peter Landesman will adapt and direct The Recount into a feature film for Don Handfield’s Motor Content and Jonathan Kadin’s KadinCreative. Landesman will be joined by Nick Jones Jr. as co-writer.
Created by writer Jonathan Hedrick with artist Gabo Ibarra Nuñez, The Recount is a four issue mini-series published by Scout Comics between November 2020 and May 2021. The comic has been described as having the political intrigue of Netflix’s House of Cards blended with the horror of The Purge film series.
In the series, the U.S. President is assassinated by someone on his own personal Secret Service detail. Another Secret Service agent then must protect the Vice President from the dangerous conspiracy to kill all those who helped the President ascend to the office. This includes the ordinary citizens who elected him, essentially plunging the entire country into civil war. The SSA and Vice President, two women with completely opposing beliefs, are forced to work together and fight back to preserve the democracy of the United States.
Landesman is known for his work on Will Smith‘s football film Concussion, working alongside Kadin where he wrote and directed the film. At the time Kadin was serving as Executive Vice President of Sony. Landesman and Handfield worked together on Kill the Messenger. Additionally, Peter wrote and directed Parkland in 2013.
