The Walking Dead original series might have come to a close, but the latest spin-off The Walking Dead: Dead City finally has a release date on AMC. The network announced at WonderCon.
The series will air directly following Fear the Walking Dead‘s mid-season finale on June 18, 2023. The series premiere will air at 10:00 p.m. eastern on June 18, but 9:00 p.m. eastern on subsequent weeks on AMC and AMC+. While the original slate of six episodes were set to drop in April, the series was moved to summer to follow part one of the eighth and final season of Fear the Walking Dead.
Dead City is set in post-apocalyptic New York City, where the once bitter enemies-turned-allies Maggie and Negan have reunited after years apart and coming to terms in The Walking Dead season finale. The duo are traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan cut off from the mainland in search of Maggie’s kidnapped son, Hershel. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror.
Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan reprise their roles as Maggie and Negan from the original television series, along with Gaius Charles as Perlie Armstrong, Željko Ivanek as “The Croat,” Jonathan Higginbotham as Tommaso, Mahina Napoleon as Ginny, Trey Santiago-Hudson as Jano, Michael Anthony as Luther and Charlie Solis as “The Bartender” also starring.
Alex Borlo, David Chen, Randy Gonzalez, Alex Huynh, Aixa Kendrick, Karina Ortiz, Caleb Reese Paul, Eleanor Reissa, and John Wu have been cast in undisclosed roles.
The series was created by Eli Jorné and is fourth spin-off and overall fifth series in the franchise, sharing continuity with the other television series, and the first sequel to the original Walking Dead TV series. Jorné serves as showrunner.
If you are excited and cannot wait for more walkers, FTWD hits AMC and AMC+ on May 14, 2023 in it’s eighth and finale season.
