There is something unsettling and disturbing about James Tynion IV‘s newest Stephen King-style horror series W0RLDTR33 #1 at Image Comics.
In 1999, Gabriel and his friends discovered the Undernet, a secret architecture to the Internet. They charted their exploration on a message board called W0RLDTR33. Then they lost control. Someone broke into W0RLDTR33-someone who welcomed the violent hold the Undernet had on them. At great personal cost, Gabriel and the others thought they sealed the Undernet away for good. They were wrong. And now they will know the meaning of PH34R.
From multiple Eisner Award-winning writer James Tynion IV (Something is Killing the Children, The Nice House on the Lake) and Fernando Blanco (Detective Comics), along with Eisner-winning colorist Jordie Bellaire and Eisner-nominated letterer Aditya Bidikar.
At this point Tynion IV can do no wrong when it comes to writing comic books. While W0RLDTR33 is not the best work by the horror comic writer, we are huge fans of Something is Killing the Children, it is close to his best work yet. The horror comic gives us glimpse of a Stephen King-style story with similarities to what made IT so amazing.
Tynion IV’s brings us yet another outstanding strong female lead character which will bring comparisons to Erica Slaughter but only as far as they are strong female leads. PH34R brings a whole new element, a nude element even, to the comic book world and we are in the for the wild ride.
Blanco joins Tynion IV on said wild ride and it is a perfect pairing. The artwork gives us a gritting and unsettling feeling while portraying the digital world at the same time.
W0RLDTR33 #1 was originally set to hit local comic shops on April 12, but was hit with a printing error delay and moved to April 26, 2023. Just adds to the anticipation of this comic which is definitely going places.
