The world has been given numerous adaptations of the 1843 novella by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol. However, not all live up to the original story.
According to our research there are over 50 adaptations of the story have been released and only about 10-percent are worth watching more than once. The other 40 or so versions can be watched once, if even at all.
Even with all the A Christmas Carol adaptations, it honestly wasn't that difficult for us to pick our top-5 favorite versions.
1. The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)
An absolute classic Christmas movie. Like Mickey’s Christmas Carol, The Muppet Christmas Carol uses the cast of characters from The Muppets and sets them in the world of Charles Dickens with Michael Caine as Scrooge.
The film is narrated by The Great Gonzo (who introduces himself as Dickens) voiced by Dave Goelz and co-narrated by Rizzo the Rat voiced by Steve Whitmire as one of the best narrating teams in movie history. The comedy displayed between the two characters is unmatched and worth the price of admission.
This original take with popular characters in the historical roles is a yearly watch for our family and is by far the best version of A Christmas Carol.
Critics give the film a 76% score, while audience is a bit more favorable at 86% on Rotten Tomatoes.
