With TMNT Week here at Capes and Tights quickly approaching it is time to get you all up to speed on what to expect from August 7-13, 2023.
This is our inaugural TMNT Week and we have plenty planned! From Monday, August 7 – Sunday, August 13 the Capes and Tights Podcast will release two episodes with comic creators, multiple written interviews, top-5 lists and much more. Let’s take a look at TMNT Week 2023!
Monday, August 7
Capes and Tights Podcast #120 – Steve Lavigne, Comic Book Artist
Steve Lavigne is comic book illustrator best known for his lettering and coloring on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles title for Mirage Studios, the first full-time artist on the series outside co-creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. He is the creator of Cudley the Cowlick, Sgt. Bananas, and Stump and Sling.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Movie Review
After years of being sheltered from the human world, the four Turtle brothers set out on a quest to be accepted as normal teenagers by the people of New York City through acts of heroism. With the aid of their new friend April O’Neil, the brothers go on a hunt for a mysterious crime syndicate, but trouble arises when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them.

Written Interview with Comic Book Artist Gavin Smith
Gavin Smith is a freelance artist who lives in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is the current artist for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on-going series from IDW Publishing. Some of his other most recent work includes Star Trek: The Mirror War for IDW Publishing, Heartpiercer for Dark Horse, and various TMNT covers for IDW including The Last Ronin, Armageddon Game, and the ongoing series.

As TMNT Week continues moving along, we pulled together five of our favorite Ben Bishop Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book covers.
Ben Bishop is the creator of The Aggregate, the worlds first Split Decision comic, as well as artist on TMNT: The Last Ronin, TMNT: The Last Ronin – The Lost Years, and TMNT Co-Creator Kevin Eastman‘s Drawing Blood. Additionally, over the years Ben has contributed to a number of variant covers.

Capes and Tights Podcast #121 – Mateus Santolouco, Comic Book Artist
Mateus Santolouco is a Brazilian comic artist and creator. As well as his continued work on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, he has worked on the titles Two Guns, Dial H, Cover Girl, Dark Reign- Lethal Legion, and more. He is also a member of Stout Club, the creative powerhouse group developing original comic books. Stout Club includes Santolouco, Rafael Albuquerque, Eduardo Medeiros and Rafael Scavone.
TMNT: The Last Ronin – Lost Years Miniseries Review
In the smash-hit miniseries TMNT: The Last Ronin, readers witnessed the final gut-wrenching days of the Heroes in a Half Shell. Kevin Eastman co-created the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles along with Peter Laird almost 40 years ago in 1984. The franchise has gone on to sell countless comic books, seven feature films (including one in August 2023), and billions of dollars in toys.

So there I was, standing in Rich’s Department Stores toy department at the ripe old age of 6 or 7; looking over all of the action figures when something new caught my eye. A turtle wearing a purple bandana over his eyes. Purple was my favorite color. I asked my Uncle what it was and after flipping it over and checking he announced it to be a ” Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.”

Nostalgia at its best. For TMNT Week at Capes and Tights we have decided to toss together our five favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video games of all-time.

The 2023 convention takes place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Downtown in Manchester, N.H. from September 15-17 and put on by Double Midnight Comics.
