The final few films of the DC Extended Universe are almost here and next up is Shazam! Fury of the Gods on March 17, 2023.
Sometimes it is easier to explain what to watch prior to the next installment in a comic book movie, but with the way DC Studios is revamping their lineup it is hard to explain what is good to watch. No one really knows the future of Shazam! in the DC Universe with the new heads of the studio in charge.
Let’s give a you a few options to prepare yourself for Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
Shazam!
The obvious must-watch prior to March 17 is the title film, Shazam! This film will introduce you to how the current came to be and although not our favorite film, its a fun watch.
We all have a superhero inside of us — it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In 14-year-old Billy Batson’s case, all he needs to do is shout out one word to transform into the adult superhero Shazam. Still a kid at heart, Shazam revels in the new version of himself by doing what any other teen would do — have fun while testing out his newfound powers. But he’ll need to master them quickly before the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana can get his hands on Shazam’s magical abilities.
Shazam! was directed by David F. Sandberg from a screenplay by Henry Gayden who co-wrote the story with Darren Lemke, and stars Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Djimon Hounsou.
Black Adam
While not directly connected in the DCEU, as of yet, Black Adam is definitely connected in the wider world of Shazam! and should be watch prior to Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods–and imprisoned just as quickly–Black Adam is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.
Black Adam was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a screenplay by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani. It stars Dwayne Johnson as Teth-Adam / Black Adam.
