The creative team behind one of the best comics of 2023 is back for another round of comedy and horror in Where Monsters Lie: Cull-De-Sac. In this follow up to Where Monsters Lie, we are greeted at another gated community for slashers and horrible monsters from writer Kyle Starks, artist Piotr Kowalski, colorist Vladimir Popov and letterer Joshua Reed.
The hit meta-horror comedy returns just in time for Halloween! Come join us, friends, for it’s time to visit another gated community for slashers and meet a new cast of horrible monsters as we return to the world of Where Monsters Lie. Connor Hayes, final girl turned apex monster hunter, has been brought to Site B and expected to be a good little killer, but will he cooperate? And what sort of bone-tingling secrets inhabit this new horror hamlet?
We move to a new gated community in the debut issue of Where Monsters Lie: Cull-De-Sac. While not in Wilmhurst any longer, I am extremely happy to be back in the world of murderers worried about HOA rules and regulations where see a few familiar faces and are introduce to a new cast of characters. I’ve said it in the past and will say it again, this witty comedy horror series can only be told be the likes of Kyle Starks and when paired with Piotr Kolwalski, Vladimir Popov and Joshua Reed not much can go wrong. That is unless you are a victim of the many slashers and horrible monsters that reside at Site B.
Kyle Starks ability to blend horror and comedy is unmatched in comics today. His dialogue features witty banter than you wouldn’t expect to come from a group of serial killers. This meta-horror is just what we signed up for after a stellar first volume and we are here for it. I didn’t know how Starks would be able to take the uniqueness of Where Monsters Lie and give us a sequel that is as equally as good with even more comedy and horror, but he did with Where Monsters Lie: Cull-De-Sac.
The artwork of Piotr Kowalksi is phenomenal and when paired with outstanding colors from Vladimir Popov makes for one beautiful comic. These two partnering up again with Starks for volume two bring the strange characters and horrors to life in vivid detail that will have you both cringing and laughing at the same time. Issue one also features some of the gruesome violence we came to expect in Where Monsters Lie.
Where Monsters Lie: Cull-De-Sac #1 is an excellent sequel with just the right amount of horror and comedy. This series is a unique tale in the wide world of comics with engaging storyline, quirky characters, and stunning artwork. After seeing where this creative team took the first volume of Where Monsters Lie, we truly cannot wait to see where we are heading in Where Monsters Lie: Cull-De-Sac.
Where Monsters Lie: Cull-De-Sac #1 hits local comic shops on October 16, 2024 (FOC: August 19) from Dark Horse.
